From Lockdown to Living Life - A Holistic Approach

I’ve had quite a few conversations with people recently that have prompted me to write this particular blog post – my first one as Golden Hands Holistics.  I’ve noticed in myself, my friends and my clients a lot of different feelings coming up as restrictions lift, life opens up again and we slowly return to our lives out in the World. One of the things that I’ve found myself saying a lot is how glad I am to have had my spiritual connection, my Reiki practice and my crystals to help and support me throughout the last year and a half.  From that thought followed another in which I felt prompted to share some of the things that have helped keep me on an even keel and allow me to gently return to life and connection with people again.

Here are some of the common feelings that I’ve heard expressed:

  • Fear of catching covid

  • Anxiety about mixing in public places again whether it’s to do with the risk of catching covid or the overwhelm of being with too many people.

  • Anxiety about connecting with friends and family again.  We’ve missed everyone but social anxiety is real as we are out of practice.

  • A belief that we are being lied to and somehow harmed as a collective by the Government/Powers that be.

  • Anger.  Everyone has their own point of view or truth about how they see what has played out over the last 18 months.  There may be anger towards those who follow the rules by those who have chosen not to and vice versa.  They may be feelings of anger towards the Government for restricting us too much or not looking after us enough.  We may even become angry towards ourselves for not being able to ‘pull ourselves together’ or cope better.

  • Fear of financial insecurity due to our livelihoods and businesses being affected by closures or because we’ve had a long time of not needing to spend much money on going out, petrol, getting haircuts etc and now we can it can feel like money is flowing through our fingers and fear creeps in about that.

  • Lockdown has exacerbated feelings of loneliness, depression, anxiety that were already there but have been compounded.  How do we now allow ourselves to be out in the world again?

  • If you are a person that naturally likes to isolate and so lockdown felt safe and comfortable for you, going out into the World again can feel like a challenge.

Any and all of these feelings are real and valid and you may have your own that I have not heard or thought of.  The point with all of it is that we need to find healthy ways of allowing our feelings and we can call in spiritual support and holistic methods to help us in whatever way we need one step at a time. 

What has helped me most through this whole time and is helping me integrate myself back into the World again is bringing my focus back to myself and my truth.  I try not to engage with too much in the way of news or social media.  Through meditation and my self-healing practice of Reiki I take myself back to my heart every day.  I make sure I ground my energy, keep it cleansed and place my spiritual protection around myself.  I breathe into my own heart and feel my own love.  If I have feelings I let them come.  I let myself cry when I need to and I let myself be angry and frustrated when I need to.  I nourish myself by spending time with my crystals, listening to music I love, getting out in nature and gently connecting with my friends again.

 

Holistic Hints and Tips

Here are some practical things you can do in everyday life to support yourself holistically.  These work any time and are a way of life for me but I feel they are particularly important at the moment:

  • Start the day with a cuppa with a crystal.  This will relax and calm you and depending on which crystal you choose will support you for your day.

  • Consciously ground your energy into Mother Earth every morning and whenever else you feel you need to.  Get your bare feet onto the Earth or if you can’t do this picture beautiful golden roots travelling down from your root chakra deep down into the Earth.  Wrap them round the big, beautiful crystal at the centre of the earth and allow yourself to connect in the with Great Mother.  Feel her love and nurture for you.  Share all your cares and worries with her as you would a loving human mother and feel her support you.

  • Cleanse your energy regularly at least once a day.  You can do this by smudging yourself, with clapping your hands through your energy field, by working with your crystals but I find the easiest and most accessible way is when I am in the shower to visualise the water washing away everything I don’t need from my energy and visualising my energy as clean and clear.

  • Place your energetic protection around yourself at least once a day.  This can be as simple as calling in for yourself a ball of white light, again working with your crystals or asking Archangel Michael to place his deep blue cloak of protection around you.  Remember we do not protect our energy from a place of fear but more as an act of self-care in the same way that we would put a warm coat on for a winter’s day out. 

  • Focus on counting your blessings and feeling gratitude as this helps your energy be light and bright.  Write a blessings or gratitude list, say ‘thank you’ to the Universe every time you notice a blessing or something feels good.  Talk about things you are grateful for with your loved ones to bring them to life.

  • If you are trained in Reiki or any other form of healing do a little self-healing every day, even if it’s only ten minutes. 

  • Make sure you allow yourself to open up to fun, creativity and things that make your heart sing.  Put three random songs from your playlist on and dance.  Draw, paint, be out in the sun, watch funny videos that make you laugh.  I love drawing with crayons with my non-dominant which is a great way of accessing the inner child. 

  • Ask your angels and guides for help whenever you feel unsure, worried, stuck or frustrated.  They will come with you and hold your hand if you are nervous about going out.  They will help ease the flow of your friendships and relationships.  They will help you to feel safe.

Don’t Forget I can help too.

  • Come for a healing session.  This will calm and relax you as well as bringing healing to anything that has been affected by lockdown or by things opening again.  You can feel the love and support of the Universe which is right there for you.

  • Learn self-healing - If you feel drawn I can also teach you Reiki or Crystal healing (or both!) so that you can not only support yourself with self-healing but also give healing to your nearest and dearest to help them too. 

The other thing that it’s definitely worth saying is that I have noticed the lockdown has prompted A LOT of people to re-evaluate their lives and what’s important.   More people than ever are spiritually seeking and wanting to connect with spiritual energies and crystals.  This gives me great hope for us as individuals and as a collective.  We have found that material things are not as important as we thought they were and that connection, hugs, touch and being with people is the most valuable thing. 

Wouldn’t it be great if the lasting legacy of this awful time was more spiritually aware people helping the World to really be a better place where we value and relish our deep connections with other people and the Universe?
